There is plenty to see and do in the area around Marina Jirnsum. Especially if you like nature we are a great dock. Visit National Park De Alde Feanen or take your boat out on the Ijsselmeer, for example. Looking for something other than nature? Visit Grou, Sneek or Leeuwarden, beautiful cities for you to explore.

Nature

The Frisian nature is impressive. Enjoy the national parks, the beautiful water and the vast landscapes.

National Park the Alde Faenen

From Marina Jirnsum you can reach this impressive park of over 4,000 hectares by car within half an hour. It is home to 450 plant species and over 100 bird species, including the white-tailed eagle. From open water to the cover of swampy forest and flowery meadows; you will find it all here. Whether you walk, cycle or sail, it is truly peaceful.

The Waddenzee

The Waddensea You can also reach the Waddenzee by car in about half an hour. This unique area is on Unesco's World Heritage List. There is plenty to do on and near the water. Go mudflat hiking, bird watching or seal watching, for example.

The IJsselmeer

The Ijsselmeer The IJsselmeer is an ideal destination for water sports enthusiasts and sailors. It has many attractions and sights. Beautiful beaches, typical fishing villages, the Afsluitdijk and nature reserves the Oostvaardersplassen and the Weerribben - this is just a small selection of everything there is to see. Just 45 minutes by car, you are on the shores of this versatile lake.

Villages and towns

Friesland is bursting at the seams with lovely villages and towns worth visiting.

Grou

Grou This early medieval village is about 10 car minutes away from the marina. It is popular with water sports enthusiasts, as well as hikers and cyclists. The old village centre is a protected townscape. Visit the characteristic Sint Piterkerk or the former town hall, which houses the Hert fan Fryslân museum. Afterwards, you can settle down at one of the cosy terraces in the centre or by the water.

Jirnsum

Jirnsum plaats Our marina is located at the edge of Jirnsum. This small ribbon village lies on the Boarne river and has just 1,300 inhabitants. With its origins in the seventh or eighth century, it has quite a bit of history. It is worth taking a look around and soaking up the atmosphere.

Sneek

Sneek In around 20 minutes, you can reach the heart of Sneek by car. Sneek - or Snits in Frisian - is the water sports capital of the Netherlands. It is also brimming with events, culture and quaint stores. Want to take to the water? Take a boat trip through the canals, go supping or take sailing lessons. Alternatively, cycle around the Snekermeer lake and then enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner in one of the many restaurants.

Leeuwarden

Leeuwarden Visit Friesland's capital, once a royal court city. Within half an hour by car you are in the city centre. Climb the Oldehove tower, which leans at greater angle than that of the Tower op Pisa. Perfect for a great view. Stroll through the many streets and feast your eyes on all the art you come across. Artists use every imaginable spot for their creative exploits. Also visit one of the many museums, such as the Fries Museum and the Princessehof, which is full of ceramics.

Eating and drinking

Want to have dinner not too far from the port? In Jirnsum you will find Eetcafé De 2 Gemeenten and Café de Fantast where you can have lunch, drinks and dinner. For a somewhat wider selection, we recommend going to surrounding towns such as Grou and Sneek.

Shopping is best done in Akkrum or Grou. In Grou you will find a Jumbo, Poiesz and a Lidl and in Akkrum a Poiesz. All these shops are open seven days a week.
