Villages and towns

Friesland is bursting at the seams with lovely villages and towns worth visiting.

Grou This early medieval village is about 10 car minutes away from the marina. It is popular with water sports enthusiasts, as well as hikers and cyclists. The old village centre is a protected townscape. Visit the characteristic Sint Piterkerk or the former town hall, which houses the Hert fan Fryslân museum. Afterwards, you can settle down at one of the cosy terraces in the centre or by the water.

Jirnsum plaats Our marina is located at the edge of Jirnsum. This small ribbon village lies on the Boarne river and has just 1,300 inhabitants. With its origins in the seventh or eighth century, it has quite a bit of history. It is worth taking a look around and soaking up the atmosphere.

Sneek In around 20 minutes, you can reach the heart of Sneek by car. Sneek - or Snits in Frisian - is the water sports capital of the Netherlands. It is also brimming with events, culture and quaint stores. Want to take to the water? Take a boat trip through the canals, go supping or take sailing lessons. Alternatively, cycle around the Snekermeer lake and then enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner in one of the many restaurants.

Leeuwarden Visit Friesland's capital, once a royal court city. Within half an hour by car you are in the city centre. Climb the Oldehove tower, which leans at greater angle than that of the Tower op Pisa. Perfect for a great view. Stroll through the many streets and feast your eyes on all the art you come across. Artists use every imaginable spot for their creative exploits. Also visit one of the many museums, such as the Fries Museum and the Princessehof, which is full of ceramics.

Eating and drinking

Want to have dinner not too far from the port? In Jirnsum you will find Eetcafé De 2 Gemeenten and Café de Fantast where you can have lunch, drinks and dinner. For a somewhat wider selection, we recommend going to surrounding towns such as Grou and Sneek.

Shopping is best done in Akkrum or Grou. In Grou you will find a Jumbo, Poiesz and a Lidl and in Akkrum a Poiesz. All these shops are open seven days a week.
